Make spring cleaning easy this year- hire an under/unemployed person from the Skills Bank.

The snow is gone, warm weather is back, and if your household is like mine, it’s time to gear up for some much needed Spring Cleaning! Okay, so while the weather may be exciting, spring cleaning is not. Why not use the Skills Bank to find an under or unemployed person in your area to tackle the job for you? It’s a great way to get the job done, help our neighbors, and strengthen community bonds.

To make things easier, we are providing a list of people in the Skills Bank willing and able to do Spring Cleaning for you. These are our friends & neighbors from across Elkhart County that need work. While it easy to say things are getting better, for many of us, there is still a long hard road ahead.

As always, feel free to browse our database of people looking for supplemental income. If you are lucky enough (or organized enough) to not have spring cleaning work to be done, the Skills Bank is full of people with an amazing array of knowledge & experience. From music lessons to gardening, computer repair to landscaping, there are over 100 different skills listed. You can also just enter a term into the search box to find people able to fill that role.

Snow brings work to people in the Skills Bank

All of the recent snow has been an opportunity to work for many people in the Skills Bank. A monetary donation from a local business and shovels donated by John Hall’s Hardware created the opportunity to put people to work clearing the sidewalks of downtown Goshen.

If you are looking to hire an unemployed/underemployed person from the area to shovel your sidewalk or drive, visit the Skills Bank and look under Lawn and Garden for shoveling snow, or do a search for snow from the search box.

Gardening program underway

The Stone Soup Cafe was running short on chairs for the first Garden Program meeting of 2010. It was a gathering of people passionate about finding new ways to bring gardening to neighborhoods, schools, churches and communities across Elkhart County.

There is a lot of great information on community gardening to be found throughout the Food and Gardens section of our website.
