The economic problems of Elkhart County are well known.  

The State of Indiana has designated funds for retraining workers laid off from R.V. manufacturers.  Elkhart County has received prominent attention from political figures.  National media have used Elkhart County as a prime  example of the negative effects of the national recession.

The problems here are real – and they could get worse.  Individuals who lost their jobs in 2008 are nearing the end or have exhausted their unemployment benefits. Many families have exhausted their life savings.  Close to 10% of the residential mortgages in Elkhart county are considered stressed.  Most local businesses are feeling the stress, and layoffs continue

However, that is only part of the story.   While our situation could get worse, it could also get better!

The people of Elkhart County are strong, and creative.  We can work together to make it through this economic crisis.
