Connecting with each other and sharing our resources to grow our own food is a basic way to bring our community through this economic crisis. There are many ways you can participate in this program.
Share your skills
If you need to earn money, and have gardening skills, you can fill out the Garden Contact form on the ECWT website. People who are in a position to use your services can contact you.
If you are able to offer your gardening skills on a volunteer basis, you can fill out the Garden Contact form on the ECWT website. We can pair you with someone who needs help.
Sponsor a gardening project for others
Gardening can be a way to provide activities for young people who might have summer jobs during a different economic climate. It can be an activity for younger children. Raising a garden could be a project for a youth group or scout troop. To discuss this further, contact ECWT at 534-0903, or at gardens@ecwt.org.
Financially support the ECWT Gardening program
The ECWT Gardening Program was created, and is being administered, by Elkhart County residents who are themselves un- or under-employed. Your financial contributions for this program are used to provide them a stipend for their work, to purchase seeds and equipment for unemployed workers, and to pay for the logistical needs of this program.
You can make contributions by writing checks to ECWT, with ‘gardens’ in the memo-line. Send to ECWT at 206 South Main Street, Suite One, Goshen, IN 46526. You can also make in-kind contributions of seeds, hoes, rakes, or even a roto-tiller! All contributions are tax-deductible, and will be receipted by ECWT.
Businesses are invited to consider sponsoring a specific community garden, or to become a sponsor of the food program itself. Contact Gwen Hershberger at 534-0903 or gwen@ecwt.org to discuss this option, and how this can be mutually beneficial to your business and the gardening program.
